3x3 lingual wire

????????

Once you're ready to remove your braces or complete your aligner treatment, you've put in significant effort to achieve a stunning smile. To preserve these amazing results, you and your orthodont will explore retainer options. A lingual bonded retainer is frequently the favored choice to prevent relapse, and we'll examine the reasons behind this preference. Let's explore the benefits, functionality, and our methodology at ALTA SMILES.

FIXED APPLIANCES

What Is a Lingual Bonded Retainer?

A lingual bonded retainer is securely attached to the tongue side of the teeth. A slender wire is bonded to the anterior teeth (the first) in both the upper and lower arches, as these teeth are most prone to shifting back after treatment. While considered semi-permanent, as it can be removed, we recommend keeping it for at least a year, though it may last up to a decade.

recent years, lingual bonded retainers have become more popular, yet many orthodontic practices still primarily provide removable options. At ALTA SMILES, we aim to help you maintain your beautiful smile long after your braces or aligners are removed. We believe that fixed retainers offer a reliable long-term solution, and they are more durable than Hawley and vacuum-formed retainers like Essix, boasting the longest lifespan.

What Are the Benefits of a Lingual Bonded Retainer?

One of the key advantages of a lingual bonded retainer is that it remains in your mouth around the clock. Since it is fixed in place, the risk of losing it is eliminated. You can forget about it while feeling confident that it is continuously working to maintain your teeth's alignment.
the thin and flexible wire provides comfort without affecting speech or causing injuries to soft tissues. Positioned behind the teeth, this option is also very discreet and nearly invisible.

A lingual bonded retainer significantly reduces the likelihood of needing further treatment, potentially saving you thousands on futureic expenses.

Are There Downsides to a Lingual Bonded Retainer?

Cleaning lingual bonded retainers may be somewhat challenging, but it's similar to caring for braces. Food particles can become trapped in the retainer, potentially resulting in plaque and tartar buildup. However if you've practiced good hygiene with braces using floss threaders, the same method applies here. Be sure to clean the interior of your teeth along with the wires thoroughly. Schedule regular dental cleanings and check-ups every six months, and try to avoid crunchy or hard foods that damage the wire to ensure longevity.

Dual Retention: Two Is Better Than One

A lingual bonded retainer is beneficial for patients of all ages and is our primary choice for retention at ALTA SMILES locations. However, we also recognize the benefits of removable retainers, which is why we usually recommend an Essix retainer for nighttime use. These clear trays, similar to aligners, are custom-fitted to your teeth to maintain their position. Additionally, the Essix retainer helps stabilize your posterior teeth that are not secured by the lingual bonded retainer. After 12 months, you can to continue with both retainers or just wear the Essix retainer at night. We're also happy to explore other retainer options that may suit your needs.
