Distal shoe
????????
A single band, featuring a distal extension that passes through the tissue, can assist in guiding the eruption of the six-year molar when the primary second molar is lost early. To ensure proper placement of the guide, either send an x-ray or mark the mesial edge of the six-year molar on the model. Additionally, specify the intended depth of the shoe that will extend under the tissue to engage with the erupting tooth.

FIXED APPLIANCES
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
• Upper Lower Working Model
• Film* (recommended) or Digital** X-ray
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE:
Mark the location for the placement of Distal Shoe.
FILM X-RAYS: Traditional FILM Bite Wing X-rays offer a "true-to-size" or "1:1 image" that allows for precise measurement of the distance from the second primary molar to the (yet-to-erupt) six-year molar. This measurement is then applied to the model for accurate distal extension length.
DIGITAL XAYS: Digital Image Files, including x-rays and photographs, can be resized indefinitely, so DIGITAL Bite Wing X-rays do NOT provide a "true-to-size" or "1:1 image" UNLESS they are accompanied by a reference scale. ALL SUBMITTED DIGITAL X-RAYS MUST INCLUDE AFERENCE SCALE (in millimeters) to ensure precise measurement of the distal extension length. WITHOUT A REFERENCE SCALE, SML CANNOT GUARANTEE THE FINISHED APPLIANCE.
