A 3x3 lingual retainer is a fixed orthodontic appliance consisting of a metal wire bonded to the lingual surfaces of the six anterior teeth—canine to canine—on either the maxillary or mandibular arch. It serves to maintain the alignment of the incisors and canines following active orthodontic treatment. The term "3x3" denotes the splinting of three teeth on each side of the midline.
