Distal Shoe

A single molar band with a distal intra-alveolar extension (distal shoe) is indicated when the primary second molar is lost prematurely, prior to eruption of the permanent first molar. This appliance guides the eruption path of the first permanent molar and maintains arch integrity.

For accurate fabrication and placement, please provide a current radiograph or clearly mark the mesial surface of the unerupted first molar on the model. Also, specify the desired depth of the intra-alveolar extension to ensure proper engagement with the erupting tooth.
