The sagittal appliance is used to increase arch length by distalizing molars and/or advancing the anterior segment, often to relieve crowding. It can be fabricated with 1, 2, or 3 screws to allow for anterior and/or posterior movement.
Screws are placed along the sagittal plane, and retention is typically achieved with Adams clasps on the first molars (if erupted) and ball clasps between premolars. A labial bow can aid in anterior control, and a posterior bite plate may be added for disarticulation and enhanced anchorage.
